“Truly speaking, I feel relieved when I entered Maekelawi.” Zelalem Kibret

It was around 5pm and I was having a chat in my office with one Indian lecturer and she was telling me about Indian culture. My Facebook and Twitter pages were open. I didn’t have class that day. The students’ boycotted class because of a protest unrest in the university. Because the academic year was almost over, I prepared the assignment that I’m giving to my students next year.

While I was with the Indian Lecturer one of the campus police member (who is also my student) came to my office and told me that the vice president of the university is waiting for me in his office. One of my friends called me and told me that the police have taken Mahi from her office while I was preparing to go to the vice president. I suspected something. For the second time, one of the campus securities came and told me that the Dr. is waiting for me. Now I got it. When I tried to call Befqe and Atnex their phones are not working. At this time, I informed Soli about the situation and left her a message on Gmail chat. I also gave her my family’s address. I saw her last reply “What? What? What?”, while leaving the office. Immediately I called to Jomanex. I hanged up telling him to see the little page.( the page that we use to exchange information online) This was my last telephone conversation.

When I get to the Dr.’s office, there were two people. I don’t know them. I think the Dr. knows about the situation. (By the way, I heard while I’m here at Kilinto that even though I was arrested from his office,  this university vice president Dr dismissed me from my job with his signature because I’m absent from work.) There were also other people on the gate. Only two of them wear police uniform. When I asked them for court warrant they showed me the warrant for searching. I saw Befeqadu et.al’s and my name on the paper.

We left the office and I was taken to my house in two cars. Since it was passed 6pm I told them that it is not allowed doing the searching after 6pm. They told me that it won’t take much time. They started video recording form the moment I opened my door. There was not much stuff in my room. They took some of the books. I told them it is illegal to do searching after 6pm but they said they won’t stop before finishing. We left my house after the searching is complete.

We returned back to my office because they wanted to take my laptop. It was dark by the time they get to the office to take my laptop. Then we started our journey to Addis Ababa being escorted by two cars. One of the security guys wanted to talk to me while we were on the road. He tried to mock at me saying how much dollar I get but his boss siting on the front seat told him to stop. Then we continued our journey to Addis with silence. It was late when we reached Addis. As I looked at the clock in the car it was few minutes to 9pm. Other people guided me into Maekelawi. I said, “now I’m at Maekelawi”. Truly speaking, I was feeling relieved.
